Surrey Road to close on November 14, 2022
A narrow bridge on a key approach to Hot Springs Village is expected to be replaced by mid-May 2023.
Garland County Judge Darryl Mahoney said the current bridge over the South Fork Saline River will close Monday, Nov. 14. Surrey Road links with Warren Watson Road, one of several ways to access Glazier Peau Gate.
Beginning Nov. 14 and continuing until mid-May 2023, crews will be working to replace the Surrey Rd. Bridge. The site is located a quarter mile north of the intersection of Highway 7 and Surrey Road.
Surrey Road will be closed near the bridge. All local traffic will be provided access with a detour using Highway 5 and Hamilton Dairy Road. Other routes to Glazier Peau Gate from Highway 7 include East Glazypeau Road and Brookhill Ranch Road.
“We are looking forward to continuing with bridge replacement and paving work to make it easier and safer to travel to and from Hot Springs Village,” County Judge Darryl Mahoney said. “I appreciate the patience and cooperation of our friends and neighbors in Hot Springs Village as we move forward with our plan for infrastructure improvement.”
Highway 7 access will be maintained to Village Springs Health and Rehab and the Fountain Lake Fire Department.
The contractor, Thomco Construction Inc., North Little Rock, also built the bridges on Danville Road. The cost of replacement is $1.18 million, all out of county funding – no state aid.
“Please proceed with caution, and thank you for your patience,” Thomco said in an email.
The current bridge was built using two former flatbed railcars, and is narrow.
