About the Case ID
Because CourtConnect can eventually contain cases from all courts in the state, the case numbers in Contexte follow a new format. Circuit Court case or Docket numbers are constructed using four main components:
- County prefix
- Two-character prefix indicating the type of case
- Two-digit year the case was filed (99, 00, 01, 02, etc.)
- Sequential number of the case (1, 2, 3, 4, etc.)
Note: Some historical cases (before 1950) may have four-digit year components assigned so as to not conflict with automatic assignment of two-digit years for the Case ID in Contexte. Example: 26CR-1914-166.
